Factcheck: BJP’s Nazia Elahi Khan alleges attack by Muslims during Mahakumbh; police call it a false complaint

Kanpur police on Monday dismissed BJP minority leader Nazia Elahi Khan’s claim that she was attacked by Muslim men on her way to Mahakumbh from Delhi, stating that the incident was actually an accident caused by the driver falling asleep. The police urged her not to spread misleading information.

According to the police statement, “On 20th March at around 07:00 AM, information was received about an accident involving an Ertiga car taxi, number UP 79AT 5232, on the highway from Akbarpur to Kanpur in front of Anandeshwar Cold Storage under Akbarpur police station area. Taking immediate cognizance of this, the local police reached the spot and inquired. The car driver said that he fell asleep, due to which the accident occurred. When asked to file a complaint, he refused to take any action, and no application was submitted.”

“Please do not propagate misleading, baseless facts related to the case on social media platforms,” said the police.

Nazia Elahi Khan, who often posts inflammatory and hate-filled remarks against Muslims, claimed in a video posted on X that “after attending a meeting in Delhi, she left for the Ganga Snan at Maha Kumbh with YouTuber Priya Chaturvedi, was followed by Muslim men from Etah and crashed into her car in Kalka, causing a serious accident.”

According to her, Priya sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“I was the target, but she came in front of me, she took everything on her,” she said in the video.

Kanpur Dehat Circle Officer Priya Singh confirmed in a video that, “Based on the facts of the incident, around 7 PM, when the police inquired, they found that the driver had fallen asleep while driving, which caused the accident.”

“At first glance, the incident appears to be a road accident caused by the driver falling asleep. The facts mentioned in the woman’s X post are not consistent with what was reported at the police station,” she clarified.

However, she added, “As per the instructions of the Akbarpur area officer, we are investigating the incident thoroughly.”

She urged everyone not to spread false information about the accident.

Ironically, Nazia Elahi Khan, the BJP’s Leader of Minorities, is known for making inflammatory and hate-filled remarks against religious minorities, particularly against Muslims, stirring tensions and spreading disinformation.
