Farm labour lynched to death in West Bengal’s Malda

A 36 year old farm labour, Sheikh Ghishu succumbed to injuries after being brutally assaulted by a mob under Ratua police station of Malda district late on Friday night.

The mob accused the deceased and his friends Sheikh Sadagar and Sheikh Sajjad who were standing near a mango plantation around 11.30pm, of being thieves and conspiring a crime in the village, reported The Telegraph. Sheikh Sajjad, somehow escaped.

Ghishu and Sadagar who were brutally beaten up till the cops arrived and the assailants fled, were taken to Malda Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced Sheikh Ghishu dead.

“We were simply chatting near the mango plantation when some villagers came and accused us of being criminals. When we said no, they started beating us. Sajjad somehow fled but we two were beaten up till the police came,” Sadagar, speaking from the hospital bed on Saturday told The Telegraph.

Malda district police chief Alok Rajoria told reports that the search is on for the assaulters.
