Former Chief Justice of India AM Ahmadi passes away

Justice AM Ahmadi – who was the 26th chief justice of India between October 1994 and March 1997, passed away on Thursday morning at around 5am.

He was appointed a judge of the City Civil & Sessions Court Ahmedabad in 1964 and was appointed judge of the Gujarat High Court in 1976. He was elevated to the Supreme Court in December 1988 and took over as Chief Justice of India in 1994.

During his time at the Supreme Court, Justice Ahmadi authored 232 judgments and was a part of 811 benches.
