The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is urging Aadhaar cardholders to update their identity and address documents online for free before the deadline of June 14, 2025. This limited-time offer comes in accordance with the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, which mandate document updates every 10 years from the date of enrolment.
After the deadline, Aadhaar updates will no longer be complimentary. Cardholders will need to visit a physical Aadhaar centre and pay a standard fee of ₹50 to make changes.
To help users take advantage of this free online update service, here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Visit the UIDAI Portal
Go to the official UIDAI website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in - Log In to Your Account
Click the blue “Login” button, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code. Request and enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. - Access the Update Section
Once logged in, review your Aadhaar details. If your identity or address needs updating, click the “Document Update” option at the top-right corner of the dashboard. - Upload New Documents
Select the documents you wish to update and upload the necessary files. Accepted formats include JPEG, PNG, and PDF, with a file size limit of 2MB. - Submit and Track Your Request
Verify the information for accuracy and submit your update. You will receive a Service Request Number (SRN) to track the status of your update.
Important: Only demographic updates (like identity and address) can be completed online. Updates involving biometric data or photographs must be done in person at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Cardholders are encouraged to act promptly to avoid fees and ensure their Aadhaar information remains current and accurate.
