
The Group of Seven (G7) countries in a statement issued on saturday urged an immediate de-escalation between India and Pakistan amid escalating military conflicts following the April 22 deadly attack in Pahalgam.
Collectively, the foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States and the European Union’s High Representative condemned the attack and exhorted the countries to exercise restraint.
“Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides,” they said
The G7 expressed that further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability and conveyed a deep concern for civilian safety on both sides, and advised India and Pakistan to engage in direct dialogue for a peaceful resolution.
“We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome,” read the statement.
Following the Pahalgam attack, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated, prompting international calls for restraint.
At least 22 civilians, including children, have been killed in Pakistani shelling so far, according to India’s government officials. Pakistan did not update the toll.
