Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse’s photo displayed during Ram Navami Shobha Yatra in Hyderabad

The Ram Navami procession, led by suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh – a serial hate-monger – in Hyderabad, had a portrait of Nathuram Vinayak Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, displayed during the yatra.

Several participants taking part in the ‘Shobha Yatra’ were seen carrying a picture of Godse on Thursday.

Hundreds of people took part in the yatra, which began from a temple in Sitarambagh and passed through different areas in Goshamahal, the Assembly constituency represented by Raja Singh. Every year, Raja Singh organises Ram Navami procession from his residence and then it merges into the main Shoba Yatra.

Mahatma Gandhi, India’s independence leader, was assassinated on 30 January in 1948 by the Hindu militant leader Ramachandra Vinayak Godse. Godse was a member of the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) all along, the Hindu supremacist organisation that wants India to be defined as a Hindu nation.

Stone pelting at mosques and dancing with swords to communally charged songs repeated on Thursday, 30 March, during Ram Navami processions leaving dozens injured.

Although reports suggest the violence didn’t escalate like last year, clashes and hate crimes were reported in several states including, Bihar and Maharashtra.
