Hindu groups attack Muslims, vandalise mosque in Madhya Pradesh

Violence against Muslims and mosques erupted in Chandankhedi village in Indore district and in Mandsaur district’s Dorana village in Madhya Pradesh when Hindu groups, participating in rallies to collect donations for construction of Ram Temple, stopped in front of mosques, chanted “Jai Shreeram” slogans and vandalised mosques Tuesday.

More than 200 members of Hindu right-wing group stopped outside the mosque and chanted “Jai Shreeram” slogans and Hanuman Chalisa while prayers were being offered inside the mosque.

According to locals, the Hindu youth who were holding saffron flags, climbed atop the mosque and tried to damage the minaret.

The videos of the incident showed the attackers also trying to burn down a house and damaging several vehicles belong to Muslims.

The videos also showed the police complicity in the violence.

Locals said former MLA of Depalpur and BJP politician Manoj Patel is being solicited by attackers to have the saffron flag raised on top of the mosque.

“24 people, mostly from the village, have been rounded up based on video evidence. There will be more arrests on both sides and people who climbed atop the mosque will be identified and booked under relevant sections,” Yogesh Deshmukh, Inspector General of Police, Indore told reporters.

Similar anti-Muslim violence erupted in Dorana village in Mandsaur district on Tuesday afternoon.

The incidents came three days after similar anti-Muslim violence erupted Begum Bagh neighbourhood of Ujjain when a rally being taken out by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha chanted anti-Muslim slogans, leading to stone pelting and attacking Muslims
