“HM Amit Shah should take responsibility for security lapses in Pahalgam,” says LoP Kharge in Rajya Sabha

Citing Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor’s statement on security lapses in Pahalgam, Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the Union government and said “Home Minister Amit Shah should take responsibility.”

After accusing Modi government of being arrogant, and not responding to letters by opposition, Kharge said the Prime Minister should have been present at the all-party meeting regarding the Pahalgam deadly attack instead of campaigning in Bihar.

Saying that the Government should admit its “lapses” and “failure” in stopping attacks, the LoP demanded accountability.

“Since BJP has come to power, there have been five terrorist attacks in Pahalgam itself. They took no lessons from those attacks,” Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha.

“Who is responsible for Pahalgam attack; whosoever is should quit,” Kharge said.

“PM Modi cancelled his Kashmir tour a few days before the attack. If they knew there was danger, why were the people not alerted,” Kharge asked.

After recalling the horrors of Pahalgam deadly attack — a woman widowed days after her wedding and a child witnessing the killing of his father — Kharge took a jibe at PM Narendra Modi’s unscheduled visit to Pakistan in 2015 during debate on OP Sindoor in the Upper House.
