Even as several exit polls predict third time for the Narendra Modi-led government, veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi asserted that Congress party remained hopeful that the Lok Sabha election results would be the opposite of the what the exit polls have showed.
“We have to wait. Just wait and see. We are very hopeful that our results are completely the opposite to what the exit polls are saying,” former Congress chief said to reporters.
Exit polls painted a positive picture for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government. ABP-CVoter gave NDA 353-383 seats and INDIA 152-182 seats. India-Today-My Axis poll and Today’s Chanakya took the NDA tally to over 400 seats. Axis projected INDIA alliance to get 131-166 seats while Chanakya predicted it to be between 96 and 118. Meanwhile, DB Live gave INDIA alliance 260-290 seats and NDA 215-245 seats. The Poll of Polls by television channel NDTV estimated that the BJP-led NDA is getting 358 seats and INDIA alliance getting 148 seats.
On Sunday, Congress party’s star campaigner Rahul Gandhi called exit polls a “Modi media poll”, his “fantasy poll”, asserting that the INDIA alliance will win at least 295 seats.
Terming the exit polls “bogus,” the Congress said the predictions were a “deliberate attempt to justify rigging” of the elections and part of “psychological games” being played by PM Modi to lower the morale of the INDIA alliance supporters.
