Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party senior leader Azam Khan MP, who was in jail for the last 23 months was finally released on late Saturday from Sitapur jail.

Abdullah Azam, son of Samajwadi Party senior leader Azam Khan MP, who was in jail for the last 23 months was finally released on late Saturday from Sitapur jail.

“I will contest and win the election as well,” said Abdullah. He was speaking to the media outside the jail.

Supporters of Abdullah Azam had also gathered outside the Sitapur jail to greet him. 

Abdullah became an MLA in 2017 and he represented Rampur district’s Suar constituency. Two and half years later, Abdullah was disqualified as MLA due to an alleged discrepancy in the Election affidavit by Allahabad High Court.

Abdullah Azam along with his father and one of the tall politicians in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party founding member Azam Khan and his mother who is a former Rajya Sabha member and sitting Rampur MLA Tanzeen Fatima was lodged in Sitapur jail from February 27, 2020, in connection with several cases including land grabbing and encroachment.

The Allahabad High Court in December 2020 granted bail to Tazeen Fatma in all 34 cases filed against her. Azam Khan is still in jail.

As per the jail superintendent, Abdullah had as many as 43 cases in his name from Rampur district and the jail authorities got release orders in all the cases.

“Azam Khan was 9-time MLA. He is now in jail in such a case in which 8 people have got anticipatory bail,” speaking to reporters, Abdullah said.

“This time Akhilesh will become the chief minister by 200%,” Abdullah said.
