In an interview with Maktoob, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader and Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi voiced strong opinions on several critical issues concerning Kashmir.
Mehdi spoke about press freedom, cultural theft, unemployment, and many other issues. As he did in the House, he highlighted the concerns regarding horticulture in the region.
Not only did he criticise a few measures taken by the government that he believes have undermined independent journalism in Kashmir, but he also spoke about the issue of cultural theft, expressing alarm over the perceived appropriation of local heritage and traditions.
Moreover, Mehdi criticised the lack of regulatory measures, suggesting that unchecked tourism is straining local resources and the fragile ecology of Kashmir. He argued that there should be a cap on tourist numbers to ensure sustainable development and prevent environmental and social issues like alcohol consumption in public places.
Apart from these key issues, Mehdi spoke about many other issues concerning Kashmir in the video interview with Maktoob.
