Jamiat alleges unilateral action against Muslims in Sultanpur violence in letter to Yogi

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani on Friday wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the “unilateral action” being taken by the local administration on the violence in Ibrahimpur area in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Madani demanded to stop the unilateral action and make a stride in restoring peace in the region.

On 10 October, violence broke out between members of the Hindu and Muslim communities over loud music during a Durga Puja immersion procession outside of a mosque in the Baldirai area.

The Hindu group stopped the procession near the mosque and then started playing DJ loudly. At the time of Namaz, some members of the Muslim community demanded to lower the volume which escalated into clashes.

That mosque was damaged. Muslim shops and madrassa in Ibrahimpur were also vandalized along with students of the madrasa.

“But the present situation is that the police are unilaterally arresting only Muslims,” reads the press statement from JUH.

“Instead of establishing justice, the SO Amarinder Singh incited the crowd while calling, “We will punish them selectively.” Will destroy their houses.” the viral video is now in the public domain. Whatever he said is now being implemented”.

Five people have been served notice for illegal occupation, of which four are Muslims and one is from the Yadav community.

All those arrested so far are Muslims who were beaten up by the lawyers in the court premises on Friday— JUH claims.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind led by Maulana Mutahirul Islam, president of Jamiat Ulama Sultanpur unit, met the District Police Commissioner & police captain and submitted a memorandum to question the unilateral action.

The letter from Madani says to “instruct the police officials to ensure that violence is not repeated”.

Madani has proposed four points in his letter.

The letter noted that (1)Kindly instruct the police officials to ensure that violence is not repeated (2) Restore peace and tranquillity by holding meetings of Aman committees and common peace yatras. (3)Take appropriate and impartial action against the rioters without consideration of their faiths. We have credible information from Jamiat Ulama Sultanpur unit that Police are engaged in arresting persons only from a particular community. (4)Please ensure & instruct the local administration not to initiate any demolition exercise against the accused under the garb of illegal construction as this kind of action stigmatizes the entire community and affects the whole family members.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind General Secretary Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi today spoke to Uttar Pradesh Minority Affairs Minister Danish Azad and demanded that law and order be restored and special instructions are given to the district administration to refrain from unilateral action.

A copy of the letter has also been given to the Sultanpur Commissioner of Police.
