Jharkhand: 65-year-old beaten to death for stopping men from applying Holi colours to her son

A 65-year-old woman was beaten to death by a group of six persons when she tried to stop them from applying colours to her son on Wednesday at Amor Nima village.

The deceased has been identified as Bucchi Devi, Times of India reported.

Girdhar Gopal, the officer in charge of Balbadda police station, on Thursday said to the news paper that a heated argument ensued between Devi and the group, including a woman, after she stopped them from applying colours to her son. The mother and her son were then attacked by the men and beaten black and blue till they both lost consciousness.

Their son, after regaining consciousness, checked on his mother and found that she died, TOI reported.

Girdhar Gopal said an FIR was filed against six persons in the evening. “The assailants are residents of the same area. Efforts are underway to arrest them,” Gopal said.

All accused are on the run, police said.

Those named in the FIR are Pappu Mandal, Lalit Mandal, Subhash Mandal, Hiralal Mandal, Ranjit Mandal and Nilam Devi of the same village.
