Kalamassery blasts: Death toll climbs to 6 as 26-year-old succumbs to burns

The death toll in the blast at a convention centre in Kerala’s Kalamassery touched six after one more person who was undergoing treatment died at a private hospital here on Friday.

The deceased is Malayattoor native Praveen (26), brother of the 12-year-old girl Libina, who was killed in the blast.

Praveen’s mother, Saly Pradeep (45) also died on 11 November after suffering above 50 percent burns in the blast.

Libina, Saly, and brothers Praveen and Rahul were present at a Jehovah’s Witnesses gathering from its beginning on 27 October. Rahul is also undergoing treatment in the same hospital.

The four of them had taken a photo together on the morning of 29 October, the day of the blast.

At least two big explosions occurred at a convention organised by the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kalamassery municipality area on October 29.

Hours after the blasts, a man named Dominic Martin surrendered to the police in the Thrissur district claiming responsibility for them. He was arrested the next day on charges of murder as well as under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Act.
