Karnataka: Church vandalised, Baby Jesus statue damaged

A church in Karnataka’s Mysuru, St Mary’s Church, was vandalised on Tuesday. The assailants also damaged the statue of baby Jesus at the church.

The vandalism comes amid a surge in Hindutva attacks against Christian institutions across country.

The police said that they have been formed to trace the accused who are on the run. They will also check the footage captured by CCTV cameras installed on the premises of the church to identify the accused.

“We are scouting for clues from the CCTV footage recorded by nearby cameras. Prima Facie looks like it is theft, as they have made away with money, and also with one collection box that was placed outside the church,” NDTV quoted Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police, Mysuru as saying.

Several churches and Christian institutions have been targeted by Hindutva groups in Karnataka over the allegations of forced religious conversion.
