Kerala: BJP leader calls Assam migrant worker “Pakistani terrorist” for anti-Modi posts; police arrest and jail him

A migrant worker from Assam has been arrested in Kerala for allegedly sharing posts on social media that depicted the Prime Minister and other national leaders in a “derogatory manner.”

Eddisrh Ali (23), a resident of Dibrugarh, Assam, was arrested after a complaint by Deep G. Nair, the BJP president of the Aranmula constituency.

The complaint alleged that he used “Facebook and other social media platforms to propagate anti-national content, including posting derogatory images of the Prime Minister and other national leaders, and sharing pro-Pakistan videos.”

The complainant stated that “these actions are intended to create discord and incite unrest among the public.”

“It is suspected that he is a Pakistani terrorist,” the complaint alleged.

The complaint by the BJP leader does not specifically mention which post is “derogatory.”

The Aranmula police have filed a case under Section 196 of the BNS Act against Idris, who sells fish near the Aranmula bridge.

Aranmula Police Inspector V. S. Praveen took him into custody around 5 PM on Monday.

After conducting preliminary procedures, he was brought to the station for detailed questioning, and the arrest was formally recorded.

The police seized the mobile phone in his possession.

The accused was presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

While the police did not share details with the Maktoob reporter about the social media post, they said the FIR is unpublished and cannot be shared.
