Another Muslim man arrested under UAPA in Hathras conspiracy case day after rape accused walk free

Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) on Friday arrested a Muslim man from Kerala, Kamal KP, in Hathras conspiracy case.

Kamal KP, a former member of Popular Front of India, is a resident of Kerala’s Malapuram. He was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.

Kamal KP’s arrest came a day after a special court on Thursday acquitted three upper-caste Hindu men in the case of gangraping and murdering a Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras in 2020.

Several Muslim men were arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police under draconian UAPA after cases were filed across Uttar Pradesh to hatch the “deep conspiracy” behind the outrage against the Hathras Dalit rape case. The FIRs were filed a day after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that the Hathras incident was being exploited by those “who were upset at his government’s progress.”

The jailed Muslim men include journalist Siddique Kappan, Jamia Millia student leader Masud Khan, PhD student and now banned Campus Front of India leader Atikur Rahman, cab driver Mohd Alam, CFI leader Rauf Shareef, PFI members Firoz and Badruddin. All except Kappan and Alam are still languishing in jail.
