Modi govt treating farmers as enemy of state: SAD leader Harsimrat Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal accused the central government of treating farmers as “enemy of the State.”

Her comments came after Haryana Police used water cannons and teargas to disperse thousands of farmers protesting against the Centre’s contentious farm laws. Farmers from Punjab are marching towards Delhi as part of the “Delhi chalo” call by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) and various factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union.

“Using force against farmers on Constitution Day has turned the day a ‘black day’ for ‘annadattas’ of the country” Punjab leader told PTI news agency.

The NDA government should not adopt a policy of confrontation with farmers and it should instead talk with them and resolve their grievances, she said.

Badal had resigned from the Narendra Modi Cabinet in September in protest against three farm bills.

Badal was the Union minister for food processing industries.

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to support the farmer’s protests against Center’s farmer laws saying the farmers of our country stand firmly against the brutality by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP government.

Sharing a video of the incident, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The country’s farmers are standing resolutely in the face of Modi government’s cruelty against them.”

Congress lader also shared a verse in Hindi lauding the courage of the farmers protesting.

Latest visuals show thousands of Punjab farmers have entering Haryana and police using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the farmers who broke barricades.
