Mohan Majhi is new Odisha CM; KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida his deputies

Bharatiya Janata Party Tuesday announced Mohan Charan Majhi, a four-time MLA from Keonjhar and an Adivasi face, as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. The chief whip of the BJP in the previous assembly, the 52-year-old was the youngest of the frontrunners.

The tribal leader, with roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, is a member of the Santali tribe and hails from Raikala village in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district.

The saffron party has also picked two Deputies for Mr Manjhi — KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida.

Deo, a six-time MLA, was a minister in the Naveen Patnaik government for nine years till 2009 when the BJP and the Biju Janata Dal were in alliance. Pravati Parida, a first-time MLA, has been in the party for the last 28 years.

The oath ceremony will be held on Wednesday, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
