MP: 5-year-old boy dies in mother’s arms waiting doctor in govt hospital

In a latest episode of medical negligence in Madhya Pradesh, a five-year-old boy died in his mother’s arms without any treatment at a government health centre in Jabalpur district.

Even after waiting for hours outside the government facility, not a single doctor or medical officer attended to the ailing child named Rishi, and he died in the presence of his helpless parents Sanjay Pandre and wife, reported NDTV.

The on-duty doctor at a health centre, Lokesh Kumar was busy at home with a special puja, according to Hindustan Times.

“We came to know that Lokesh Kumar was busy with the special puja at home because his wife was fasting that day,” Pawan Kumar, the boy’s uncle, said to the newspaper.

The locals claimed that even hours after the child’s death, neither the doctors posted at the health centre nor the medical officer were available.

Congress leader and former chief minister Kamal Nath attacked the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government after a photo of the boy’s distraught family went viral on social media. “It is shocking that people are dying without treatment. This is a failure of the state government and the health minister should resign.”
