MP: Right-wing groups attack interfaith couple inside courtroom while trying to register marriage

An interfaith couple who visited a court in Bhopal to register their marriage was targeted by members of right-wing outfits, who assaulted the man from the Muslim community after accusing him of “love jihad”.

Despite the video of the attack inside the courtroom has gone viral, police have yet to make any arrests, according to reports. The couple couldn’t complete the formalities as sources inside the court tipped off the right-wing groups.

According to The Indian Express, Bhopal ACP Akshay Chaudhary confirmed the incident and informed that the couple was placed under police protection.

“Further action will be taken based on the woman’s statement,” Chaudhary told IE.

The video has sparked outrage on social media as the situation for interfaith couples has become tense due to right-wing vigil groups.
