Najeeb’s mother travelled 250 kilometers to express solidarity with JNU protest

Fatima Nafees, the mother of Najeeb Ahmed, a biotechnology student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), who forcefully disappeared more than three years ago following a physical attack by members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on Thursday urged people to support the JNU students in their protest against hostel fee hike.

Fatima Nafees visited the university and met students who sustained injuries after being baton-charged by the police during their protest on Monday.

“The students were beaten up like animals. This struggle is not only their”s but for the coming generations. I urge everyone in the country to join this struggle since they are demanding what is rightfully their”s and that is to have lower fees,” she said.

Ongoing protest by the students of JNU is largely over the proposed fee hike provision in the Draft Hostel Manual. Apart from the hostel fee hike, deadline for students to return to hostels and dress code were the major sticking points against which the students were protesting.
