“No fear of BJP’s ‘operation lotus’,…”: Congress on Himachal results

Himachal Pradesh’s Congress party observer Rajeev Shukla told reporters that MLAs may be moved to Chandigarh, 90 km away, “for convenience”, and said BJP’s poaching attempts will not succeed if the Congress crosses 40, five above the majority mark in the 68-member assembly.

The Congress party is leading in 39 seats — well past the halfway mark of the 68-seat Assembly. The BJP, meanwhile, is leading in 25 seats. Independent candidates are leading in three seats.

NDTV reported that MLAs may be taken to Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh, the only two states where the Congress has chief ministers, after a pitstop in Chandigarh, if the margin remains slender.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Jairam Thakur conceded the BJP’s defeat, saying he respected the verdict given by the people. He stated that he would soon be head to the governor’s office to submit his resignation.
