Omicron scare: UP to impose night curfew from 25 December

Uttar Pradesh on Friday imposed a night curfew in the state from 11 pm to 5 am as precautionary measure amid rising Omicron cases.

The curfew will come into affect from Saturday night.

Poll-bound UP has also announced additional restrictions – only 200 people will be permitted to attend marriages and social functions, at which all necessary COVID-safety protocols to be followed.

Thirty-one new COVID-19 cases were reported across UP on Thursday.

UP is the second state to bring back the night curfew after Madhya Pradesh’s announcement yesterday.

Meanwhile, the tally of Omicron cases in the country rose to 358. Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of the new variant cases, at 88, followed by Delhi with 67, Telangana 38, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 31 and Gujarat 30.
