Only Trump left to campaign: Owaisi’s dig at BJP over Hyderabad civic polls

Addressing a public meeting at Hyderabad’s Langer House, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi MP took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for deploying top leaders to campaign for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) poll.

He said: “Looking at the BJP, it doesn’t look like  Hyderabad’s Baldia election, it’s as if we’re electing a prime minister in the place of Narendra Modi.”

With the top leaders of the saffron party from outside Telangana joining the campaign, Hyderabad civic poll has gained national importance. The BJP deployed party bigwigs, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, national president J.P. Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union ministers Prakash Javadekar and Smriti Irani.

“All of them have come. I was at a rally in Karwan and said that everyone has been called here, a child said they should have called Trump too. He was right, only Trump is left,” Owaisi said.

Elections to the 150-member GHMC are scheduled to be held on December 1 and the counting of votes will take place on December 4.

In the previous GHMC body, the ruling TRS had won 99 divisions, the AIMIM had won 44, leaving the remaining seven for all the other parties including BJP and Independents.

Owaisi v/s Yogi

Bristling at the pitch by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath for renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar, Owaisi has hit back saying that Adityanath’s generation may end but the city will continue to be called as Hyderabad.

Owaisi MP asserted that Hyderabad will not be renamed to Bhagyanagar as pitched by Adityanath and said that his party in the Old City is not afraid of BJP’s threat.

The vocal Muslim leader said on Saturday:  “Wherever he goes he says we will change the name of the place. UP’s Chief Minister comes here and says he will rename (Hyderabad). You will be renamed, but Hyderabad will never be renamed. Have you taken a contract for this renaming every place? Ask them who made the Taj Mahal, they will say we will rename it. Now tomorrow maybe they will say Charminar was made by them, Charminar is so pious a place, admire its beauty. No they(BJP) just want to rename. Some of their leaders will say that they will hoist their flag on our Minarets, I ask them how? Our flag is hoisted there – our political flag. Here, neither your flag will work nor your sticks. MIM was in Hyderabad and will always remain.”
