Operation Sindoor: Rajasthan’s border areas on high alert, schools, airports shut

Following Operation Sindoor, in which India targeted what it says is ‘terrorist infrastructure’ in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, all border areas of Rajasthan have been placed on high alert, with Bikaner and Jodhpur airports closed and flights cancelled as precautionary measures.

“Following the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ by India, the state government and administration are on high alert,” according to a post by the official X handle of the Rajasthan Government. It added that Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma is overseeing the situation.

The border between Pakistan and Rajasthan is approximately 1,070 kilometres (or about 665 miles) long.

“In this regard, Chief Secretary Shri Sudhansh Pant and Director General of Police Shri U.R. Sahu are in constant contact with the Chief Minister, and the situation is being continuously monitored. Special instructions have been issued to the administration of Rajasthan’s border districts. The Chief Secretary has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant, not to pay attention to rumors, and to trust only official information,” the post on X read.

Jodhpur Airport Authority Director Dr. Manoj Uniyal told the media that “around nine flights from Jodhpur airport have been cancelled for today,” adding that passengers have been informed and “a help desk has been set up at the airport to assist with any enquiries.”

He asserted that this decision is just for one day, as per orders received, and that any further decisions will be communicated to the public by evening.

Among other measures taken were the shutting of all schools, both government and private, for Wednesday in Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Sri Ganganagar districts.

District Collector Tina Dabi stated that due to national security reasons, a holiday has been declared on Wednesday, today, in all government and non-government schools of the district.

The annual exams for classes 9 and 11 scheduled for Examinations scheduled for Wednesday have also been postponed.

Leaves of government employees in Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar districts have been cancelled, with instructions issued directing them to remain at their respective district headquarters.

Residents of border villages in Sri Ganganagar and Bikaner have been asked to leave the border areas and move to safer locations.

Rajasthan Police said it remains fully vigilant in the border areas and has urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the authorities without delay.

Meanwhile, mock drill in Rajasthan will be held in 28 cities, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Rawatbhata (Chittorgarh), Ajmer, Alwar, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bundi, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Sikar, Nal (Bikaner), Suratgarh (Sri Ganganagar), Abu Road (Sirohi), Nasirabad (Ajmer), Bhiwadi, Phulera (Jaipur), Nagaur, Jalore, Beawar, Lalgarh (Sri Ganganagar), Sawai Madhopur, Pali, and Bhilwara.
