Opposition MLAs raise ‘RSS Governor go back’ slogan in Kerala Assembly

Kerala Assembly’s budget session began on a stormy note on Friday with the Opposition Congress-led UDF raising “RSS Governor go back” slogans against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan who came to the Assembly to deliver the opening address to mark the start of the budget session.

Opposition MLAs staged a protest sit-in at the portal of the House after boycotting the proceedings.

When the speech began by the Governor, the Opposition MLAs echoed a protest and raised slogans, “RSS governor go back”.

Irked over this, Khan replied that this is not the place for a protest. However, the Governor continued his opening address despite the opposition staging a walkout in the assembly.

MLAs also carried the placards, which could be read like “Government-Governor unholy nexus” and that the Governor signed the Lok Ayukta ordinance to protect Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Ordinance, brought by the CPIM-led LDF government, had kicked up a political storm in the southern Indian state recently as opposition parties raised objections against it, saying it would weaken the anti-corruption watchdog.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan told reporters outside the House that the Governor is colluding with the state government and abusing his power.

“Kerala Governor is acting as an agent of Sangh Parivar and BJP,” Satheeshan said.
