Oscar for RRR is a slap on face of secular India: Anand Patwardhan

Oscar award for RRR is a slap on the face of secular India, said prominent filmmaker Anand Patwardhan on Wednesday.

RRR’s ‘Naaatu Naaatu’ soundtrack by MM Keeravani was awarded the Best Original Song Award at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

“No Oscar for ‘All That Breathes’ but Oscar for RRR are slaps on the face of secular India,” Patwardhan tweeted.

All That Breathes is a 2022 documentary film directed by Shaunak Sen. The film, which follows siblings Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad, who rescue and treat injured birds in India, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Patwardhan is among the filmmakers and critics who have been alleging that the movie is a pro-Hindutva and an anti-Adivasi one.

“No one cares that RRR is undisguised Hindutva propaganda?” asked Patwardhan soon after SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster won the Golden Globe 2023 two months ago.
