Qatar summons Indian ambassador over derogatory comments against prophet Muhammed

Qatar Sunday summoned the Indian Ambassador for Qatar over the denigrating comments on prophet Muhammed made by BJP officials.

Indian envoy Deepak Mittal was handed an official note in the Foreign Office expressing disappointment, total rejection and condemnation of controversial remarks made by the spokespersons of India’s ruling party – BJP.

In response to a media query regarding statement issued by Qatar MOfA, Ambassador conveyed that tweets do not, in any manner, reflect views of the Government of India.

“GoI accords the highest respect to all religions. Strong action has already been taken against those who made derogatory remarks,” he conveyed. Though two FIRs were registered against BJP’s Nupur Sharma, she was not arrested yet.

Interestingly, MEA called BJP spokespersons “fringe elements.”

The BJP on Sunday suspended spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal from the party’s primary membership following global outrage for making insulting remarks against prophet Muhammed.

Qatar welcomed the move by the BJP announcing the suspension of party officials who made the derogatory comments.

The urgency on part of the BJP to suspend the hate preachers comes on a day when the Vice President of India is on visitation at Qatar meeting with the highest order of officials of Qatari State – Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani.
