Rape-accused Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna arrives in Bengaluru from Munich, arrested

Prajwal Revanna, sitting MP and NDA candidate in Karnataka’s Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, who is facing sexual assault charges, was arrested by the Karnataka Police after he arrived at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of Friday.

He was taken into custody by the Karnataka Police Special Investigation Team (SIT).

He had left the country on April 27 – a day after voting in the Hassan parliamentary constituency.

The 33-year-old Prajwal, grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM H D Deve Gowda and the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha segment, is facing charges sexually abusing dozens of women.

The scandal has raised a political storm, with Congress and other non-BJP parties campaigning across India against the BJP’s protection of politicians accused of rape.

A Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant on May 18 against Prajwal Revanna, following an application moved by the SIT.
