Thirty Rohingyan refugees from Jammu Kashmir including women and children are stranded in front of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at New Delhi since Monday morning. Their tents in Kashmir were burned down by unidentified mob overnight and were forced to leave the place.They are in front of the UNHCR office asking for a refugee status to get the corresponding benefits. But there were no positive response from the officials yet.
‘Around 12 in the night they were driven away from their tents by a a group of Hindu extremists . Later they set their tents in fire. UNCHR made a promise to them, that they will provide refugees a compensation package worth 2000 INR only for each family. Neither media nor any other organisation approached them regarding this.They are starving since they reached Delhi. They are badly in need of food and shelter ,’ Maung Abdul Khan , Rohingyan activist told Maktoob Media
