RSS, VHP have been given responsibility of collecting Ram Temple funds: Temple trustee

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) have been given the responsibility of collecting funds for the construction of Ram Temple as they are the biggest institutions in the country, said Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha of Pejawar Mutt, one of the trustees of the ‘Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra’ trust.

In an Interview to New Indian Express, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha claimed that both the VHP and RSS are institutions with unparalleled stature.

“We had to roll this out as a physical campaign to enable everyone to be a part of this historic movement. As many people wanted to contribute, the network of VHP and RSS was put to work for their convenience,” he said.

He also told presser that they have collected over Rs 1,000 crore, and the drive will continue till Magha Poornima, February 27.

The Ram Temple is being built in place of a Mughal-era mosque Babri Masjid which was demolished by the right wing Hindu mob in 1992, triggering nationwide anti-Muslim violence in which more than 2,000 Muslims were killed.

This week, former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy accused the RSS of marking houses of those who gave donations for Ram Temple and said it was similar to what the Nazis did in Germany.

Responding to this, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha said: “To keep the drive transparent, houses would have been marked to facilitate volunteers to return and collect funds later with receipt book.”

As part of the two month-long donation drive for construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, multiple incidents of anti-Muslim violence have occurred across the country including many strong holds of Hindu militant organisations RSS, VHP and other Hindu fringe groups.

In December 2020, violence against Muslims and mosques erupted in villages in Madhya Pradesh when Hindu groups, participating in rallies to collect donations for construction of Ram Temple, stopped in front of mosques, chanted “Jai Shreeram” murder cries and vandalised mosques.
