Shashi Yadav: Left’s lone woman candidate and vocal leader of working women in Bihar

Digha, Bihar’s largest assembly constituency having 400 booths with around 4 lakh voters, will see a triangular contest as the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party will fight it out in the second phase of the Bihar assembly elections on November 3. 

In the residential neighborhood in capital city Patna, Grand Alliance candidate Shashi Yadav (CPI-ML), the vocal leader of working women in Bihar is pitted against the NDA legislator Sanjiv Chaurasia (BJP), son of Sikkim governor Ganga Prasad and the RLSP candidate Sanjay Kumar Sinha.

In 2015, BJP’s Chaurasia won the election by upstaging Janata Dal (United)’s Rajeev Ranjan Prasad by a margin of 24,779 votes.

Shashi Yadav: Vocal leader of Bihar’s working women

According to CPI-ML general secretary and one of the star faces of Grand Alliance Dipankar Bhattacharya, “Shashi Yadav is a fearless, tireless campaigner for women’s freedom and equality and rights of scheme workers.”

Yadav, the state secretary of the party’s women’s wing, All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA), is the left’s lone woman candidate in the state.

Yadav who has been spearheading a campaign for the rights of National Health Mission Volunteers in the state has led many several movements among Anganwadi, ASHA workers and midday meals cooks.

She is the current vice president of All India Central Council of Trade Unions and president of the All India ASHA Association, 

“The voters of Digha have created a mood for freedom from the misrule of BJP-JDU,” Yadav said.

Yadav said she is trying to make the rights of working women a poll issue.

“Working women are among the most vulnerable groups in the state. If elected, I will demand labour status for scheme workers’,” she asserted.
