Tagore’s Bengal would not allow hate politics: CM Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a rally ahead of West Bengal Assembly polls 2021, at Bolpur in Birbhum district on Tuesday, asserted that the land of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore would never allow hate politics to triumph over secularism.

Iterating that the BJP is a “party of outsiders”, Bengal CM claimed that conspiracies were being hatched to destroy the state’s inclusive culture and cautioned people against divisive politics.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief accused the saffron party of enabling communal politics at Visva-Bharati, which was founded by Tagore.

Mamata also targeted Visva-Bharati University Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty, calling him a “BJP stamp”.

She said: “Those who do not respect Mahatma Gandhi and other icons of the country are talking of building ‘Sonar Bangla [Golden Bengal]’. Rabindranath Tagore already created ‘Sonar Bangla’ several decades ago, all we need to do is to protect the place from the communal onslaught of the BJP.”
