Tamil Nadu Police have registered an FIR against four administrators and a former student of a school run by the Isha Foundation, following a complaint of sexual harassment.
The school, operated by the foundation established in 1992 by spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev—popularly known as Sadhguru—came under scrutiny after the parents of a former student alleged that their son was molested by a fellow student.
Police have registered the case under Sections 10, 21(2), and 9(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act—relating respectively to punishment for aggravated assault, failure to report an offence by an institutional head, and compensation to the child after FIR registration—and Section 342 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to wrongful confinement.
According to FIR registered at the All Women Police Station in Perur, Coimbatore, the student’s mother alleged that the sexual abuse occurred between the years 2017 and 2019, while her son was enrolled in the school, Scroll.in reported.
The FIR also records the survivor’s mother’s allegation that she wrote several emails to Jaggi Vasudev, requesting his help with the situation, but that she did not receive any response.
The FIR comes six months after the parents of the survivor had held a press conference in which they alleged that their son had been sexually abused by a fellow student, and that despite complaining to the school authorities, they were not offered any support. The press meet was in October 2024.
The parents filed an online complaint with the All Women’s Police Station in Perur, Coimbatore, in October last year but the FIR was registered only three months later on January 31. They said the police handed over a copy of the FIR at the end of March.
The survivor’s mother has also faced harassment and threats, Scroll.in reported. “Ever since I made the press meet, my life has been under constant threat and harassment,” she told the news website.
