The district administration in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli has ordered an inquiry against Assistant Superintendent of Police Balveer Singh after three persons accused him of custodial torture.

Singh, posted at Ambasamudram police division, has been accused of breaking the teeth and crushing the testicles of two persons after they were called for interrogation, The Hindu reported.

A video of victims making accusations against the officer surfaced on social media before the administration took action. The men alleged that Singh changed to plainclothes from his uniform when they were taken to the police station on March 23.

“About 10 youths in Ambasamudram police division in Tamil Nadu claimed ASP Balveer Singh IPS removed their teeth with cutting plier & crushed testicles of two of them including a newly married youth. These three persons explain what they underwent in police custody. Teeth of many other persons who were arrested for husband &wife issue, damaging CCTV camera and money lending issues were removed. A person whose testicles were crushed is critical. The victims seek protection from police,” Tamil Nadu journalist Thinakaran Rajamani tweeted on Sunday.

“He asked his gun-man and another policeman to hold my hands,” one of the persons identified as Chellappa said.

“He broke my tooth with a huge gravel. Later, he put the broken pieces into my mouth and slapped me until my lips started bleeding.”

“When he started beating my brother Mariappan, we begged him not to as he is newly married. But once we said that, he crushed my brother’s testicles with his left hand and kicked him on his chest,” the men revealed in the video posted.
