Twitter withholds PFI’s account a day after government ban

Twitter on Thursday withheld the official account of Popular Front of India, a day after the Muslim outfit was banned by the Union government.

The Popular Front of India’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram were no longer available as well.

Twitter said that the account has been withheld in India “in response to a legal demand”.

Union government banned PFI and its associates including Campus Front of India, Rehab India Foundation, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations, National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.

Responding to the ban declared by the Union government on Wednesday, Campus Front of India called the move “undemocratic” and “anti-Constitutional”.

The Muslim student group in a press statement said the ban will be challenged in court.
