UP: Akhilesh Yadav’s SP loses his Lok Sabha seat Azamgarh to BJP

In a setback to the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday emerged victorious in both Azamgarh and Rampur seats in the by-elections to the UP Lok Sabha constituencies.

BJP candidates Dinesh Lal Yadav (Azamgarh) and Ghanshayam Singh Lodhi (Rampur) defeated SP nominees Dharmendra Yadav and Asim Raja respectively.

Both seats have been strongholds for the SP. While the Azamgarh seat was vacated following the election of the party chief Akhilesh Yadav to the state assembly, the Rampur seat was similarly vacated by the party’s another tallest leader Azam Khan.
