A 40-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint in front of her four-year-old son in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district near Agra, police said on Tuesday.
The accused was identified as Ramji.
Facing financial hardship, the woman’s husband had taken a ₹20,000 loan from a man of a different caste, and when she accompanied the accused to collect the money, he allegedly assaulted her.
In her complaint filed on Monday, the survivor reported that on April 17, while returning home after taking her son for a haircut, she encountered the accused near a bridge. The accused offered her the loan amount and persuaded her to accept a ride on his motorcycle. Trusting him, she got on the bike with her son, but the accused took her to a secluded location and assaulted her.
During the attack, he threatened to shoot her child if she resisted.
Initially, the survivor remained silent out of fear. However, when the accused, who runs a shop selling construction materials in the village, began repeatedly calling her, she told her husband about the incident, who then took her to the local police station.
An FIR was registered against the accused, from the same village, under BNS section for rape along with SC/ST Act following the woman’s complaint.
“She was sent to the hospital for medical tests. The accused will be arrested soon. Investigation is on,” SHO Anuj Kumar told the Times of India.
