UPSC lateral entry:.Chandrashekhar Azad to ‘gherao’ Parliament on 7 March

Bhim Army chief and Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad announced he will gherao the Parliament on 7 March against Narendra Modi government’s policy of lateral entry in bureaucracy saying the BJP government’s move is a violation of constitutional rights and it will bypass reservation.

In Delhi on Monday, Azad told reporters that the gherao (surround) of Parliament would be the first step of an agitation against lateral entry.

The central government has decided to directly appoint private sector experts in various government departments, such as joint secretary and director, for lateral entry. Notification has been issued for lateral entry recruitment.

“If the government does not take back the policy, Bhim Army will organise block, district and state-level panchayats to strategise the next steps of the protest,” Azad said.

According to the vocal Dalit politician, Lateral entry has become a method to bypass reservation.

In press conference, Azad also pointed out that there was not even a single SC, ST, OBC or minority person included in lateral entrants in 2019.

Earlier, targeting the ruling BJP at the Centre over lateral recruitments of senior positions in the government, Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and RJD politician Tejashwi Yadav said the saffron party is attempting to get its own people from backdoor, bypassing reservation and policies of social justice and ignoring genuine candidates who have been working hard for years.
