The district administration of Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh has released a list of 60 Muslims from Tambaur Town who allegedly protested the Waqf Amendment Act by wearing black armbands.
This comes after over 300 Muslims in UP’s Muzaffarnagar were served notices by authorities asking them to appear before a magistrate and furnish a bond of Rs 2 lakh each for allegedly staging a similar protest against the Waqf Amendment Act.
The legal actions were sanctioned by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Laharpur, and they have been ordered to pay a security bond of ₹1,00,000 each.
Municipal council president of Tamboor, Tayyabun Nisha’s husband and former municipal council president Ishtiaq Khan, is among the main booked.
Maulana Abul Khair Nadvi, who was involved in the protest, has also been booked.
The police took all the accused into custody. After making them sign an apology, they were released on bail upon submitting a bond.
Police officials said that strict action will be taken against those who break law and order.
