Video: Elephant hit by speedy train in Assam, dies soon after

On Wednesday, a male elephant was hit by a speeding train and died after he succumbed to injuries near Jagiroad Railway Station in Assam`s Morigaon district.

The pachyderm was first separated from the herd and then hit by Silchar-bound Kanchenjunga Express at Tegheria, Assam. The northeastern state has the second highest population of elephants in the country, after Karnataka.

The other elephants managed to cross the track after which the dead elephant carcass was removed from the tracks and services resumed soon after. 

Netizens reacted to the incident and raised concerns about the safety of animals and the malfunctioning of the speedy trains after a video of the elephant went viral on X, formerly Twitter. Watch:
