On Sunday, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressing his objections to the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) recruitment exam for constables being conducted solely in Hindi and English.
Stalin urged Shah to allow the examination to be taken in all regional languages.
Stalin tweeted: “The notification by CRPF to conduct its CBT only in English and Hindi amounts to blatant discrimination and denies equality of opportunity to non-hindi speaking states.”
“I urge Hon Amit Shah to immediately revise the notification to include Tamil and other state languages,” he added.
“But the candidates appearing for this examination from Tamil Nadu cannot write the above examination in their mother tongue Tamil – that too in their own state,” read Stalin’s letter to Shah.
Furthermore, Stalin highlighted a part in the CRPF notification which says 25 out of 100 marks in the recruitment test is to assess the candidates’ basic knowledge of Hindi. Stalin criticized this scoring system, calling it “not only arbitrary but also apparently discriminatory”.
Recently, KT Rama Rao, a minister from Telangana, also appealed to Amit Shah to revise the CRPF exam regulations to incorporate regional languages.
He said: “These competitive exams are being held only in English and Hindi, which is a serious disadvantage to students who did not study in English medium or are not from Hindi-speaking States.”
