Leaders in Bahrain’s Parliament raised concerns over ‘Hindu extremism’ in India while discussing the cold blooded murder of former Indian parliamentarian Atiq Ahmed by the Hindutva sloganeers.
“Atiq Ahmed and his brother were killed barbarically by Hindu extremists in police presence. Such incidents shouldn’t just be condemned, but also stopped,” Arab parliamentarians said.
“We treat the indian community with all respect in Bahrain and across Arab nations. No one disturbs Hindu community here. In fact, they are defended. But what is happening to Muslims in India is unacceptable. Be it Kingdom of Bahrain or other gulf countries, this shouldn’t stop at condemnation alone. The extremist Indian government is going too far and must be stopped,” they said.
“Decisions have to be taken to stop bloodshed of Muslims. All Arab nations should demand protection for Muslims in India,” they said.
“I request summon to the ambassador and hand him the condemnation letter, demanding the protection of Muslims in India,” a parliamentarian said.
The videos from Bahrain parliament have gone viral on social media. However, neither Indian government nor Bahrain’s officials have reacted to the discussion yet.
Former legislators Atiq Ahmad (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Allahabad for a checkup. The killers were shouting Jai Shri Ram, a slogan that has become a battle cry for Hindu nationalists in their campaign against Muslims.
The issue has raised questions about rule of law in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. The horrifying visuals were circulated widely on social media platforms and television channels.
The last rites of Ahmad’s son Asad, who was by killed by Uttar Pradesh Police in Jhansi on April 13, were performed here just hours before the shooting.
Ahmad had moved the Supreme Court for protection, claiming that he and his family have been falsely implicated in the Umesh Pal murder case and he might be killed in a fake encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
