Netflix, Twitter, Instagram, Prime, HBO announce support for Black Lives Matter after Floyd killing

Social media platforms Twitter, Instagram, and streaming platforms Netflix, Amazone Prime, Hulu, and HBO have taken a stand against white police brutality and racism as nationwide protests rock the United States after the death of black youth George Floyd.

Social media giant Twitter has changed its display picture. The new display picture shows Twitter’s iconic blue bird turned into a black colored bird.

It has also changed the bio which now says, #BlackLivesMatter.

“Amid the already growing fear and uncertainty around the pandemic, this week has again brought attention to something perhaps more pervasive: the long-standing racism and injustices faced by Black and Brown people on a daily basis,” it said.

Instagram- Share Black Stories

Instagram has changed its logo and cover image to Black.

The cover image of the world’s biggest photo and video-sharing social networking service says, ‘#ShareBlackStories’.

“We hear you, we see you and we are with you. We stand against racism. We stand with our Black community — and all those working toward justice in honor of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and far too many others whose names will not be forgotten,” Instagram said.

To be silent is to be complicit: Netflix

“To be silent is to be complicit. Black lives matter,” the streaming giant Netflix wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon.

“We have a platform, and we have a duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.”

Netflix’s tweet received a compliment from awarding-winning filmmaker and director Ava DuVernay, who wrote “Well done,” and worked with the streaming service on her “When They See Us” documentary series about the Central Park Five case.

Fight against racism and injustice: Amazone Prime Video

Another major streamer Amazon Prime Video has shared a tweet in support of Black Lives Matter.

“Together we stand with the black community – colleagues, artists, writers, storytellers, producers, our viewers – and all allies in the fight against racism and injustice,” Prime video tweeted.

Today and every day: Hulu

“We support Black lives,” competing streaming service  Hulu wrote in its tweet.

“Today, and every day. You are seen. You are heard. And we are with you.”

We stand with our Black colleagues: HBO

“‘Neither love nor terror makes one blind: indifference makes one blind.’ – James Baldwin,”   the streaming platform HBO Max wrote in a tweet.

“We stand with our Black colleagues, employees, fans, actors, storytellers — and all affected by senseless violence. #BlackLivesMatter.”
