Manchester United board decide to sack Solskjær at emergency meeting

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is to be sacked as Manchester United manager, following a humiliating 4-1 defeat at Watford. Official statement from the club is expected in a due course.

The club priorities a respectful parting for Ole, while Darren Fletcher- former Manchester United midfielder- is likely to be appointed in charge on an interim basis.

The plan is for an announcement to avoid describing Solskjær as sacked and refer to a mutual agreement. Compensation and other final touches were being attended to after the board completed their discussions, The Guardian reported.

On Saturday, United was defeated by Watford for 4-1, dragging the club down to 7th on the table with only 17 points. In the last 7 PL games, United had lost 5, won only 1 and a draw.

“I always have believed in myself. Yes, I believe we can turn this around. I feel far for the fans. I feel the same as them. We’re embarrassed, losing the way we do. We are in a very bad run”. Ole commented on the defeat against Watford.

Initially, Solskjaer was appointed as an interim manager after the departure of Jose Mourinho in December 2018. Later he signed a 3 year deal with the club to be the permanent manager. In 2020-21 season, United came in second of the table and Solskjaer was rewarded with another three year deal, which will force United to pay him a huge fee of 7.5 million euros.
