French forward Kylian Mbappe has denounced the French Football Federation’s (FFF) ignorance of the racial slurs made about him after missing a penalty.
The Paris Saint German’s star was smeared on social media by outraged fans, and he even felt like giving up his career with the French national team. Mbappe failed from the spot against Switzerland at Euro 2020, ultimately resulting in Les Bleus being knocked out in the last 16.
In his response on Sunday, Mbappe expressed disappointment that FFF president Le Graet had not regarded the “racism” of which he would have been a victim.
Le Graet was attracted to criticisms of his claim that racism “doesn’t really exists or never exists” in soccer last September.
Le Graet said: “Mbappe considered that the federation had not defended him after his missed penalty and the criticism on social media networks”.
“We saw seen each other for five minutes in my office, he no longer wanted to play in the French team – which he obviously did not think”, Graet added.
However, Mbappe has accused the president of ignoring racism, responding via social media by saying: “I explained to him well that above all else it was in relation to racism, NOT the penalty.
“However, he thought that there hadn’t been any racism…” said the 23-year-old.
Fédération Internationale de Football Association performed a study, and it reported that 38 percent of the online abuses targeted at football players were racist in nature.
