Former Indian World Cup-winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on August 15, announced time on his international career spanning 16 years.
The Ranchi-born wicket-keeper batsman who is also known as ‘Captain cool’ made his debut for India under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly in 2004 against Bangladesh.
Dhoni took to Instagram and shared a video with a caption: “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”.
Dhoni is currently in Chennai with the Chennai Super Kings squad and will be part of a training camp before they leave for UAE.
The 37-year-old is the only captain to win all three major International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies — the World Cup, the World Twenty20 and the Champions Trophy.
He had stepped down from ODI captaincy in January 2017 after having retired from Tests on December 30, 2014, in Australia.
Dhoni, who was named captain in 2007, led India to the top of the world Test rankings and is the only player to captain in more than 50 matches in each of the three formats.
“Your contribution to Indian cricket has been immense, M S Dhoni. Winning the 2011 World Cup together has been the best moment of my life. Wishing you and your family all the very best for your 2nd innings,” Sachin Tendulkar sent best wishes to Dhoni.
