The death of renowned activist and Jesuit priest 84 year old Father Stan Swamy, who was arrested, jailed last year under draconian UAPA in connection with the Elgar Parishad case and repeatedly denied bail by courts, has triggered an outrage against Narendra Modi government's investigation agencies and India's draconian anti-terror laws from rights activists, political leaders, intellectuals and community leaders worldwide.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the death of renowned activist Father Stan Swamy, an under-trial in the Elgaar Parishad case, and said that the union government should be answerable for absolute apathy and non-provision of timely medical services, leading to his death.

After the death of renowned activist Father Stan Swamy who was arrested under draconian UAPA in the Elgar Parishad case last year, Swamy's lawyer Mihir Desai demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter.

"Who in the apparatus of the Indian state will be held responsible for this tragedy? Make no mistake — it is the Indian state that killed Fr. Stan Swamy, who was such a passionate crusader for social justice" Jairam Ramesh tweeted.
