“World’s biggest TDR scam”: Opposition’s mass rally against Dharavi Project contract with Adani Group
The Shiv Sena (UBT), Indian National Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and left parties organized a large rally in Mumbai's Dharavi against the Adani Group, protesting the Eknath Shinde government’s alleged favouritism towards it in awarding a project to redevelop Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slums.
An 80-year-old man died in Mumbai's Dharavi out of coronavirus. This is the fourth death in the area, which is known to be Asia's largest slum.
Their biggest victory so far has been a fixing of the wages. Under the Sanghatana, which has 5,000 members, there are six separate groups – the domestic workers, the largest faction with 2,000 members, has fixed Rs 2,000 as monthly wages for a home with a family of four. The home based workers group has about 1,500 members followed by garment workers, vendors, rag pickers and those who prepare and sell packed lunches.
